Rewriting the Rules: Understanding Policy Change in a Diverse Canada

In this lesson, students explore LGBTQIA2S+ rights, equality, discrimination, social barriers, oppression, and civil and human rights. They examine the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act and its impact on the LGBTQIA2S+ community in Canada, while reflecting on what these issues reveal about themselves and others. Students also develop skills in advocacy, considering how they can support ongoing legal and social changes to protect and improve the lives of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. Recommended for Grades 10–12.
