COSI Earns Four Emmy® Awards for Delivering Science Programming That Engages, Resonates, and Sticks

Recognizing its commitment to transforming how science is taught, shared, and experienced, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) has earned four 2025 Emmy® Awards for its bold, imaginative approach to science storytelling. This year’s wins span science, sports, entertainment, and music, highlighting COSI’s unique ability to blend education and entertainment in ways that resonate across age groups, cultures, and communities.

Now honored with 13 Emmy® Awards to date, COSI’s latest wins reflect the breadth and creativity of its science programming. COSI’s 2025 Emmy Award wins include:

  1. Environment/Science Category: “Dr. B in 3: Eclipse” (Watch Here)
  2. Informational/Instructional Category: “Dr. B in 3: Don’t Take My Breath Away” (Watch Here)
  3. Sports Story – Long Form Content Category: “Science of Sports: Skateboarding” (Watch Here)
  4. Entertainment – Long Form Content Category: Eclipse: The Musical (Watch Here)

COSI was also recognized in the Musical Composition/Arrangement category for Eclipse: The Musical, honoring artists Kaitlin McGaw and Tommy Soulati Shepherd for their songwriting and performances.

“These awards speak to a simple but powerful truth—science is everywhere. It’s in the way we move, the way we create, and the way we make sense of our world,” said Dr. Frederic Bertley, President & CEO of COSI. “To be recognized again by the Emmys for sharing science through story, music, and imagination is a tremendous honor. It inspires us to keep pushing science forward in ways that are creative, inclusive, and deeply human.”

Fresh off its fourth season, COSI’s signature animated series Dr. B in 3, hosted by Dr. Bertley, earned two Emmys for its ability to distill complex scientific topics—from quantum computing to the solar system—into content that sticks. Each episode blends animation, storytelling, and original music to spark curiosity and meet learners where they are.

As a cornerstone of COSI’s nationally recognized STEAM Education Ecosystem, Dr. B in 3 is embedded in the Learning Lunchbox program, an initiative that has distributed nearly 400,000 STEAM kits to underserved youth across 40 states and seven countries. Each kit connects directly to Dr. B in 3 videos and some feature a Digital STEAM Portal—a video player within the kit pre-loaded with Dr. B in 3 episodes—bringing hands-on, mobile-accessible learning right into students’ homes and communities.

COSI’s Emmy recognition for “Science of Sports: Skateboarding” and Eclipse: The Musical further underscore its commitment to making science resonate through creative, culturally relevant storytelling. Whether breaking down the physics of an ollie or turning an astronomical event into a stage production, COSI is reshaping what science communication looks like and who it’s for.

“Through music, animation, and the science behind everyday life, we’re creating new ways for people to connect with science,” concluded Dr. Bertley. “This work is about sparking possibility, because the future of science belongs to everyone. I am extremely proud of the team and talent with whom I have the pleasure of working and producing this penultimate award-winning content.”
