There’s a greater push to teach kids computer coding at school. But you don’t need to be a technology whiz to introduce it to your students.

Children and youth born after 1995, “Generation Z,” want to become entrepreneurs. But entrepreneurship education requires more than just teaching business skills.

Each year, groups of students in British Columbia begin classes after their peers because schools aren’t sure where to place them. Administrators and teachers often spend the first weeks of school finalizing classroom placements. It can take nearly a month, and often happens while students with disabilities stay at home.

Royce Li knows of students who hadn’t cracked an egg before entering his Grade 11 class. “It’s shocking,” he says from Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario where he teaches in the hospitality department. Students are used to meals from fast-food restaurants where products are often filled with unnecessary fats, sugars, and salt.
